Dusty Brown .
Had to plug this artist. Went to alot of shows a few years back and really felt a vibe there. I came to think while I was listening something about the concept of 'representing'.
Search engines and statistics govern much of many of our worlds now. To represent in this context means to add one to the count of your group for whereever you are.
Stand up and be counted.
Say, for instance, a junglist in Long Beach, people who notice him or her and her or his music, styling or dress mark that in their head, take notice. Jungle is represented in Long Beach. Hip-hop has a lot to do with this idea I think, at one level or another. Coming from an underrepresented group makes sense to me, if that means something in the end. It's a lot of noise and seems to be everywhere now, what's being done with it no longer has those intensions in mind. But in consideration of its 'roots', where representation comes from and from which people represent, I think there have been significant contributions to music and in my case to how I think about it.
